400&semi;">Every year since 2012&comma; over 10 million new guns have hit racks in the United States&period; The number of new guns peaked in 2016 at 16&period;3 million – 11 million of which were manufactured domestically&comma; and the remaining 5 million were imported&period; For context&comma; the number of new guns on the market never exceeded 10 million between 1986 and 2012&comma; and it was below 5 million for most of those years&period;<&sol;span><&sol;p>&NewLine;<p><span style&equals;"font-weight&colon; 400&semi;">Firearm manufacturing and import data reveals how American tastes have changed over the last several decades&period; In most years from 1986 to 2009&comma; rifles dominated domestic firearm production&period; However&comma; that changed in 2010&comma; when pistols – not including revolvers – overtook rifles in domestic production and have held the top spot every year since&comma; with the exception of 2015&period;
